IMPORTANT!!

If you are unable to attend band practice, please inform your SLs or directly SMS me BEFORE BAND PRACTICES START!! , for those who don’t know me... I am Chris, so for those who don’t have my contact its (82072141)… So your don’t have any excuses not to inform us =P

Please give me a photocopy of your MCs or parent's excuse letter to excuse you from band practice on the day u did not turn up for band practice BY THE NEXT BAND PRACTICE!!

If you do not feel well after school or u have other commitments (that is important), and you could not turn up for band practice on that day. Please fill up the EARLY RELEASE FORM (can be found at our NOTICE BOARD next to the family tree =D) with all the details filled and the teacher’s signature before handing it to me before hand if you have confirm that you are unable to attend band practice OR by the NEXT BAND PRACTICE.

HI GUYS~

we have yet to decide on the band tee design.

so pls pass me ur designs on the next band practise.

and the attendence havent been up to mark this few practices.

i understand that its the holidays and u guys might have made prior commitments.

As ur know that we are gonna change our noticeboard on FRI too =D Just a reminder...
I need ur to send me any of ur pictures, be it with ur section or with any band ppl.. as long as its band related just send it to my email (fukada_74@hotmail.com) then i help ur print or the best, ur can help me print and bring it on FRI ^^
If ur have any ideas to decorate the noticeboard can tell us too... =D
Here is what i think of lar (TENTATIVE ONLY, the decision still lies on ur)

A stage kind of feel.. which is like do something like curtains (use cloth - can get recycle cloth.. if ur have any unwanted ones can bring also if nt we can use crepe paper) and the stage... (can use crepe paper) to do it... then in the middle we put in our pictures, names on the left and the notices and more pictures on the right.. =D can can??

The names right? do ur want it type out or we can write it.. on construction paper or paint it... cools right??

(So this one will need ur to bring scissors, glue, pins, crepe paper -if ur have.. if nt we can get from book shop or pop, construction paper and paints)

2. Easier one is to just paste black colour construction paper on the whole board.. then use GOLD paint and paint "YJWINDS" on it. Then we paste all the notices, pictures, names.. and etc...

SOOoo.. if ur dont want this also can.. tell me wat ur want and we can try to work it out together... just tell me wat ur feel.. coz this is nt MY board.. its OURS =D or else i will just stick with the current layout and just change the pictures and the names lor... okies??

The other thing which is the motto for the band.. can ur think up of ideas? We can put it on the noticeboard too.. more cool mah.. yaya??

and there is also the band banner if ur want it?? but i m nt so sure if we have the time to do it lar.. (tentative for the band banner) most impt now is the notice board ks??

Sooo to summarise all.. tell me what ur think best by thurs, coz need to bring what we need mah.. or else i will just bring nothing arh.. and nothing will be done leh.. =( Hopefully, ur read this post and REPLY me cans? =D Thanks lots~

This friday's practise starts at 10am as we will be moving the librarian scores to the 2nd floor and we'll also be doing major adjustments to the storeroom ,as u guys know thats its a little messy now.

below are some important details regarding band fest.participating students will receive one band fest tshirt and a handbook. ( containing rules and stuff like that.) meal on the concert day will be provided.

there will be interactive games,sectionals rehearsals and full band rehearsals.

Okay okay I'm guilty of not updating this space.

Got some admin stuff done up.

Hope you guys enjoyed the national day holiday with more homework.

Upcoming this month is Section Leaders Workshop, hope you guys are up for it. Mind you, I too have to lug the tuba for the workshop...urgh

On the other hand..

Like every new football season, there are transfers between clubs for players at high prices. Here at YJC band, its the same except without the ridiculous price tag

there has been some major reshuffling of the band sections. As you may know, we have new reinforcements for the solo trombone dude Clarence.

'Someone' decided to play Euphonium with treble clef transposition..lol..

New Hornist. No horny issue at hand..(no pun intended..seriously)

A brass player left to join the dark side of the woodwinds section..(well technically the instrument is metal..nonetheles...hmm)

Well, thats all for now, I shall try to add pictures to this blog as soon as motivation hits me and I stop looking like a stalker.

Ho-kay, really minor update. I'm online because Im doing some PW stuff..nuff said.

Anyways, those who know some standard guitar/bass tunings will realise that each string is tuned in 4ths.

Imagine, tuning each string to the same note in 3/4 different octaves. Now you've got some leeway to play faster fingers first!

As such, you could actually play the same finger pattern on the same 4 strings and get 4 octaves of the tune.

Apply that to you're preferred mode (Lydian, Locrian, Ionian , Phygrian...Mixo..blah) and the scales within that mode (or is it the opposite way)...and you get this.

It only takes bout 3 minutes of your life...But wow! I've been watching this since 06 and to this day, I'm still amazed at it.

Im back people! This will be a LONG POST. I warn you guys and gals! Mind you, its longer than my econs essay..nonetheless, enjoy :) Its all food related.

Hope you guys and gals enjoy your extended youth day break. Do use it to your advantage. And to the alumni, for your in uni..I think its term break..so no diff...erm...NS dudes, keeping fighting the good fight.

So...Food food food.

I recently read an interesting book bout the origins of the food we eat everyday. Not in terms of its cultural or historic value, rather in its food chain line.

And it all leads back to corn...the most hated yellow living organism that threatens our food prices and the bloody econs case studies we slog in school.

Think about it. That syrup/sweetener you guys like in your canned drinks be it carbonated or not comes from some frutosed corn syrup. Screw the chem, you get the idea.

That piece of meat you eat everyday (sounds wrong.. :p). Yeah its meat...the animal was probably fed with corn. No wonder the chicken breast meat can compare to the size of my flabby chest and man boobs, and Im a guy! Good lord. What am I eating.

So you get the idea...

I'm sure you guys and gals love your food. But I have a extremely frinky/nagging thing on my mind.

Do you guys eat to live or live to eat? Its crazy seeing and (over)hearing people saying that they are cutting down on their food intake when they are comparable in body size to the freaking ERP/Traffic light pole, its insane! Then again, I'm comparable to a Snorlax in terms of attitude and hunger pangs..heh!

But good food is good food and it deserves to be shared.

Lets see, I'm sick of cheena food even though I'm cheena.

Changi Village has some decent malay nasi lemak (not the cukoko cheena rojak ver). Its competiton. But, do look around for it. Its a long line thats visible from the empty bus interchange. That stall serves it with the indo-style keropok. Good gimmick imho. But the whole row of malay stalls also serve nasi lemak. And to be frank, they are just as decent. Pick your poison guys. For me, sambal is the key component. Screw the chicken wing and ikan and egg and cucumber. Harmony in the rice and sambal makes my day.

And if you walk to the other side, there is a middle aged couple selling pretty decent beef noodles with bittergoud and salted black beans. Do try it.

At Lau Pat Sat, its a kill-two-bird with one stone effect. The Satay row along the "closed for trading" SGX is great for late night dinner. Why two birds with one stone?

On weekdays its kinda quiet. Therefore, you aspiring couples can (try) to go there and eat satay macam the good ole days without your kaki nangs from school spoiling the mood. Its also great for couples to argue without making a scene because no one there gives a hoot. They are all just trying to lure customers to their satay stalls.

On weekends, its lively with locals dinning out with friends. The vibe there is great.

For me, the past 10 years I makan from 'Pondok' satay. Its the one first from the long steps. Left or right depends on where you're coming from.

The guys there are hardcore Man U and Arsenal and Liverpool fans with cheery spirits and a great skill at preparing satay. I love the chicken and beef satay. The cut onions are a killer so be warned. The gravy is so thick and solid ..you'll be thinking its malay peanut butter! (well almost..)

But like I said, there are so many to choose from. Pick your poison.

The Indian rojak is decent stuff but be careful bout the Tau Hu, its sour on some days. Their soup kambing is artery clogging but damn! its good stuff. Sinful yet pleasurable. You have been warned.

Lets go central and into the city hall and Plaza Singapura area. Usually I hang around there when I have the ability because its either I'm testing new guitar pedals, laugh at poseur guitarists trying to act cool playing canon rock (they fail) or lusting with desire at the beautiful guitars on display.

City Hall area.

Purvis Street has a lot of underrated food. Avoid Ms Clarity Cafe. Its full all the time. Don't bother. There are hainannese 2 chicken rice outlets at the end of the street. One is the usual Kopitiam style..but its bigger and serves Zhi Char as well. The pineapple rice is fierce. If there isn't band on Fridays, I'll usually be there.

Across is a hainanise chicken rice cum steamboat restaurant. Everything in there macam good ole days. The door is old, there is a working payphone inside(the ones we used to call mummy and daddy with the 10cent coin) and the gas burners running the steamboat is ala gas burners. Heat and pespiration included. But the vibe is good. Its full of old timers, but you'll appreciate the food. Their hainnanise pork chop is killer.

There is a beef noodle stall in the middle of the street. I've not tried it out but yea..its popular..go take a look if meat is your fetish(man that sounded wrong..)

Walking in the direction of NAFA from purvis street, its means walking backwards towards plaza singapura.

You'll pass a place called Sunshine Plaza. Its opposite one of the NAFA faculties.. now let me warn you...

This place is queer.

There is a very nice and quaint thai cafe facing outside from the plaza. Pad Thai there is real shiok. The beansprouts are fresh and crunchy(some will hate it..) but overall..good stuff.

Walking in, is Dim sum and Wanton Mee. Definitely check it out. There is a family selling chicen pies and muffins inside as well. Its a bit pricey considering they increased price but good stuff to indulge when you feel emo or no one understands you.

Ignore the rest of the mall. Its full of Gundam nerds and local Otaku peeps. Err...weird..

Coming out, you'll see Parklane and Peace Centre. These places are a walk back in time

Parklane serves economical rice at canteen prices but at buffet portions. Its my SOS base whenever im hungry and broke in the middle of town.

Peace centre has turkish kebab. Its kinda pricey but I like it cause the meat served is of excellent quality. There is a chinese dessert shop inside, their mango pudding is better than a BGR. Going up to the third level is a muslim stall serving nasi padang and the usual mee and soup based stuff. It is canteened priced but buffet portioned as well..their various kuahs(gravys) are sinister.

Hungry yet? No? NPNT? No pic no talk?...I knew it you people will want photos. Its on my camera but im lazy to upload it...hehe (what a tease!)

Moving on to music!

Mr Big is coming to singapore on the 18 of Oct. Guitar hero Paul Gilbert will give you a thousand notes a minute solos. Expect crazy harmonic minor scale playing...

For Symphonic Band stuff...I think Bandfusion is sufficient...nuff said.

Nothing much left to say. In fact I think this post is comparable to a China Studies Source Case Study urgh..again, sorry guys and gals

I just realise that Vivaldi's The four seasons sounds insane on electric guitar!! Crazy.

Yes people, if you're reading this, you may be thinking this is a joke...but, I'M ACTUALLY UPDATING BAND BLOG.

Yes, I broke the rules, i'm updating this space yet again. Kudos to the Gods of inspiration who have motivated my arse to type out this text.

Technically, I'm not supposed to say this..but for the majority...eh wait..

Since band is now rather small, that small minority now makes up a considerable number...what the hey?!

Lets see, based on what I've stalked so far, Mr Rasull has not updated his blog in over a month, sad to say this, but I speculate that he's fully devoted himself to the Gods of music. Remember boys and girls, the timeless saying that : "Silence is Golden". I think he's up to some crazy stuff...maybe... Man, I'm wishing he transcribes Judas Priest for symphonic band. That will be pure epic sacrilege!!

Well for those that bother to even read this joint, (which is basically the alumni...) the canteen is being remodelled again. If there's one thing about YJC, its the vibe of the architecture. This school reminds me of the 80s /90s. On hindsight , now I won't be able to find a place to sit down, chug down my kopi and stare angrily at people!

Okay okay..let me think of something to blog about. (btw, this is really hard, I've not updated my personal blog in days. Twitter is good stuff to try)

Transformers

For what it was worth, to put it blunty, it was hardcore robot on robot action with tons of military hardware. Crudely, its technology 'pron' for nerds , nuff said.

I'm kinda interested in watching Bruno. I just hope it won't be a torture to my eyes (oh the horror!! oh the horror of the crappy spongebob movie!!! People will hate me for this..)

For people who enjoy good food, I'm going on another recon mission to Arab street sometime soon. I'm craving for Nasi Padang. (Chun Kit remind me if you read this blog). I'll see if I can get some ideas for makan sessions with you peeps through this search of mine. Again, screw NAPFA and the NAPFA training.I'm always hungry for good food and Tuba boys are majority round belly dudes with the exception of Sylvester(respect sia, PES A somemore) and Yi Long. (Pong Pong will skin me if he reads this!)

Guys suggestions needed for this blog. I'm ranting random stuff. Give me something to write :/

Warning , Random Rant Ahead

Ho-kay people.

For those who even bother to read this blog, thank you for your crazy patience. So sorry, I was AWOL. Erm, to be honest, I did not go for band during the 2 weeks because I went for minor operation.

To those that know about my operation. Wow!! , what a life-changing experience. I will never ever take a "pigeon" for granted ever again :P (If you know what I mean)

Yeah...so no band....haha(awkward laugh)

People, remember to maintain impreccable personal hygience. <- Is that even a proper sentence?

With that said, lets hope the instruments will be of a similar care as well.

This post will be super-unrelated to band, but its my duty to ensure this blog doesn't die a painful death.

Here we go..(rubs forehead and swears..)

To J1s

IMHO screw block tests. The only thing I gained from each single test is a mental block. Honestly, don't go crazy over one set of test lah eh. There's more to life than just paper tests. Imagine driving! That one lagi terok!! (I'm sure teachers can testify to that)

(When I think about it, if the teachers were to read the blog, I'm in deep...)

YJ gives us homework and tests macam giving away free supermarket/fast food discount coupons. And as students we reciprocate by testing the teachers' patience by submitting late work. Or in my case, failure to even hand it in in the first place. So at the end of the day, its fair game.

What can we look forward to?

Well, lots of homework, irritating calls from pw mates and teachers, late nights and all that good stuff that makes us look like zombies at the start of the day! Don't you just love to hate that stuff.

No wonder there is a market for skin care products...

If band music is not your thing...you can always look forward to Nine Inch Nail's upcoming National Day Hol's gig at Fort Caning. I can't believe that my mum is not allowing me to go!! The irony is, she doesn't mind me listening to Megadeth and Slayer! Oh the irony!!

So to stop my ranting, lets end this post with an ultra nerdy/geeky/dorky/flat/stupid joke I read somewhere.

Three individuals , C , E , G went to the bar for a drink. The following night, C , G brought Eb to that same bar they went the day before.

Unfortunately Eb was kicked out of the bar.

Hi people, finally after some help from my little bro (who ironically is also in band..), the extra google calendar module has been removed. I've also refreshed the tagbox, so I apologise to the seniors like Linn and Guan Yu who have been using it fruitfully these few weeks. Very very very sorry ...

Moving on, my only annoyance so far is the google calendar which does not obey my border orders, therefore I've added the extra text to push that bugger. Whether its funny, I don't know...

Eh....as for the updating of the J1 cohort on your left of the blog.. I'll probably do it sometime next week because it is a pain in the butt ...every single thing bout blogger is like The Matrix..codes and codes and codes...screw this nonsense!

Therefore, I can't link blogs from you guys and gals yet. Again, I apologise for this. $hit happens and I'm trying to clear things up. Very Sorry

With that said, I will also update the exco and music comm. personnel list on the left next week.

dear all,

glad to see that you guys have been practising intensively. but do note that intensive practise does not equate to EFFECTIVE practise. please take extra care to..

1. scribble down on ur scores whatever ur SLs/SCs/conductor says because we as human beings tend to forget.

2. REMEMBER and APPLY what you have been taught/told

3. be FOCUSed when practising/combining

4. pay SPECIAL attention to ALL the markings PRINTED on the scores. they are there for a purpose

5. LISTEN to each other when you play. NO ONE is a star player in the band. the main objective is to BLEND your sounds together and not to over power anyone.

6. there is no point in tuning.. unless everyone bother to listen to each other AT ALL TIMEs.

unfortunately for wind players like us, our instruments does not work the way a piano does ( i.e tune once and we will be in tune infinitely ). we have to tune, and then LISTEN as we play to make minor adjustments ( slides/lip bend/whatever ) in order to blend in. so who do we adjust to? within the section you adjust to the one in the 1st seat ( i.e first trumpet/horn/whatever ), and so, it is the 1st player's honourable duty to ensure that they are in tune with the rest of the band at all times. i hope this helps.

7. it is NOT just the SLs/SCs/Conductor's duty to ensure that the section/band plays well. it is YOUR own duty to ensure QUALITY playing before turning up for sectionals/combine. do make sure sufficient practise is done before appearing for sectionals/combines.

8. its sooooooooo close to SYF already, do try to MANAGE the time ( what little ) you have instead letting TIME manage you.

9. do not forget those basic stuffs we as wind players should do to achieve good tone + intonation + endurance etc. . yes the syf pieces are important but without a good foundation, there is no way we can bring out the best in the pieces. so... please do remember to do

1. long tones ( hold each note of the scale for 16 counts )
2. lip slurs ( to build up endurace. i said, LIP SLURS, so do NOT tongue )
3. chord building exercises ( to help listening and balance )
4. tongueing exercises ( to help in sub division also )

ps: when u do all the above please pay special care to ensure tone + clarity of playing at all times or else it would all be done for nothing.

Shannon our senior euphonist will be performing with the Ngee Ann Poly Band On 11 Jan 2009, sunday, at Singapore Conference Hall. Tix are at $10. Hi pple,This is regarding the JC band fest. A couple of people indicated their interest yesterday. Dateline is actually today!! Latest we can do it will be Monday, Deepavali. If you're interested, please indicate your interest to SLs who will then contact weiling. You all will pay $12 only.

Here the advertisement:

On behalf of the Wind Bands Association of Singapore (formerly WASBE Singapore) and our co-organiser, the National Institute of Education, I am pleased to extend the invitation for your institution’s band to participate in this year’s Junior College & Polytechnic Band Festival.

This year, we are pleased to extend our invite to the bands in Polytechnics to join us in this 8th edition of the Band Festival. Showcasing talented band members from various Junior Colleges and Polytechnics, band members can expect an eye-opening and fun learning experience while working together to present a spectrum of colourful music from different cultures and genre.

During this festival, students will be regrouped into four combined bands to learn and interact with young musicians of various schools via sectional rehearsals, full band rehearsals, interactive games and other activities.

The Honor Band of the Festival will offer students an opportunity to challenge themselves in their music making Endeavour. Students will be able to opt to join the Honor band via an audition and learn under Dr Eric Hammer, Director of Bands & Professor of Music Education at University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, USA. Dr Hammer is also the President-Elect for the Western CBDNA.

The Band Festival aims to:

-Provide an opportunity for students from Junior Colleges and Polytechnics to interact musically, intellectually and socially
- Introduce varied band literature, approaches to performing practice and techniques, stylistic consideration and modes of interpretation by external conductors

Participating students will receive one festival T-shirt and a handbook containing all necessary information and rules. Meal on the concert day will also be provided.

Festival period: 17 to 20 December 2008 (Wednesday to Saturday)

Originally we wanted to put the YJ logo on the sleeve but that will cost us like 2 to 3 bucks more.

Also, if we put it in red and blue, the original colour, the shirt will cost like $14.20.

So that's the MINIMUM amount you got to pay if you want the shirt.

We're still trying to see if we can add on coloured stripes to the sleeve.

The main band has already paid. For J2s, if you want the shirt please tell ur present SL your shirt size. So far we've receive 10 orders from our seniors :)

Anyway, last wednesday on the loooong day of band prac, we gave our 3 beloved conductor and tchers some sweet little tchers' day gifts.

We manage to take a picture of one of the pressies.

Good news peeps, the Missing Clarinet has been found...
so Ee hui and Muzzi, don't worry... i know you both had been looking high and low for it... and i thank you for your efforts.

So this all goes to show we have to be extra careful about the instruments and equipment we are holding... let us just be careful and follow procedures when it comes to loaning and returning of instruments.. every record is crucial.. =)

Hello everyone!

I guess you all must have been enjoying watching the Beijing Olympics or busy mugging for tests and prelims.

Congrats to Team Singapore on winning Silver in Table Tennis Girls Finals!

Okay, coming back to band stuff.

Here's an update on the CCA t-shirt approval criteria according to

Mrs George from the PE department:

1.The shirt must be either white, blue or red base.

2.The words and graphics can be of any colour.

3.It must have the phrase "Yishun Junior College" and YJ Sch Logo printed on it.

That's all!

So here are some ideas on what the shirt might look like.

General outline of backview of tee (White Jersey)

Back View (1) (blue)

Back view (2) (Gold picture with black wordings)

The front view of the shirt is still under construction.

Unless we have other better suggestions, the back view design is likely to be one of those above.

Gold colour or blue nicer?

i think it's essential i make this post...

I feel that in this band, everyone has a part to play. This is our band, not anyone else's band. I think the previous batch of EXCO has done a really band-tastic job in making the whole band united and successful. Im sure this batch's EXCO can do it too! (:

However, this do not seem to be the case. After the J2s had left, the number of members remaining is around 30-40. I personally noticed the absence of band members. Attendance was irregular.

Take today's WBAS workshop as an instance, look at how many people turned up. Even the SLs were not here. So few members turned up. If the SLs dun even set an example, how are the members going to follow? The morale in this band is bad, going downhill... perhaps.

I can see that Nicolette and Darren are trying very hard to bring the band to maintain the success of the band, perhaps even bringing it to higher heights. I think as EXCO members, we should also do the same, continue to light that spark in the band so that it will go back to the sparkling times just before SYF.

We can start with the EXCO. I believe, if we EXCO set an example, we can lead the band and make it successful again! If we continue to display that "heck care" attitude, how do u think the band will feel? I think we need to sit down n think about solutions how we can make the band better. (:

I believe we can do it! Jiayou, and all the best for promos too. ((:

History of NJC Band:
Firstly NJC Band is the First Junior College band ever in Singapore under the baton of Associate Prof. Ho as better known as the Teacher of conductors in Singapore, since 1969..
Etude is the first ever sch band concert in Singapore held annually, with PM Lee and his Wife Ho Ching as the first few batch of players in the band..
Over the years, NJC Band has produce numerous great professional players like Kenneth Lun, Rasuall, jus to name a few..

Etude
Etude is a french word..Yes French is the common language use for music..
Ok Etude has the meaning of Knowledge of Music..
So having Etude as a concert, it basically means that NJC Band is presenting our knowledge of music in a short piece of repertiore..
We hope to share our knowledge of music with u guys and spread our love and passion of music many others..!!

Ok let me introduce to u some of the big pieces in Etude XXXII

Chorale and Shaker Dance
It is a very old piece, composed in 1972, based on the famous tune, Simple gifts..
Or better known in its variation, The Lord of the Dance..
It is one of the few band works which breaks itself from the norm of band works..
because it involve a more different type of chord works which was previously known as clash chords..This style of composition is known as Avant-garde - a Genre synonymous to New Age..

Thames Journey
DEBUT IN SINGAPORE!!
This is a british composition !
It tells u how a river flows from the inner region of England out to the English channel..
On the journey out, several stories took place and recalling of the rich history of England was captured in the song as well..
And if u are there, listen out for the famous London Bridge is falling down tune ! =)

Fantasy Variations
It is a Variation of a theme by Niccolo Paginini..
With jus a simple theme, its presented into 20 different variations of the tune in this piece..
oh in this 20 variations, it features solis from all sections and solos for some sections..
Highlight for this piece, is our Band major, Shermin Tay, playing a Contrabassoon, cost $60000!!
She is also the Bassoon principal player in Mus'art Wind Orchestra! =)

Internal Combustion
2nd Debut after SYF 2007 !
Yes this is the piece that NJC band played for SYF 2007 which awarded us GOLD award!
This is totally a classy !
U have to hear this !!
It involves 100 Bars of Mixmeter(all different Time signature)..
I would dare to say, no band in singapore can play it like NJC band does !!
so please come and listen to this super piece !! =)

Stage Band
Firstly, lets get the facts right..
Stage Band consists of only instruments, Trumpets, Saxophones, Trombones, Guitars and Percussion..
As far as i know, Only NJC Band has a Stage Band..
VJC and TJC have a rather modern Stage Band as they include instruments like Clarinets and more..
Anyway this year's NJC Stage Band is rather different from the previous years..
This year it will be in a form of skit..
Yes a little copying from TJC, but ours is a little different..
So come to find out wats different !!

This is a Japanese choral music..
but was arranged in Band version! =)
In this song, it features my solo !!
lol not very main point..
anyway, this is the only pop song we are playing..
By the way, this was the song sang during a Combined School Choir Concert last yr july !
And NJC band was invited to boost the whole sound of the concert ! =)

Machu Picchu
A perfect piece composed by Satoshi Yangisawa !!
A rising Composer!! With songs like Hymn to the Sun with the beat of mother earth and Cavetowns!!
with Fantastic balance of importance between the winds, brasses and percussions !
And in this piece, notice how tiring is the piece, ultimate range of notes with little bars of rest!
This piece was made famous by TJC band who won the National Band Competition last yr ! =)

hellos all!

MAY 11 2007.

most of us reported on time ( dispite the heavy rain ) drenched like soggy sponges. so proud of us all who made the effort to wake up early! tuned and all fast fast dispite the heavy storms which caused some of us to be late. thanks all for being such good sports and not grumbling about anything at all! WOOSHED!

made our way onto the bus. the bigger bus had this not so sane uncle yelling at all of us. thank goodness it didnt really dampen all our moods. arrived at the hall slightly later than our reporting time. whew! some of us managed to use the gents hor *winks* =)

walked into the tuning room and got ourselves all ready. band was flat, my goodness. went onstage after a few run throughs here and there.

"YJ WINDS. ARE YOU WITH ME"
YES!

"ARE YOU WITH ME?!"
YES!

"remember. -draws heart-"

and then the moment came. every one awaits the arrival of Mr Sim.

the first note of sunrise came from the lower winds, then marcus did a fantastic job ( i know its hard for you to be controlling ur urge to blast =pPppPp ) at the first go on the 'sunrise motif'. we watched Mr Sim and came in together, as on time as we could today. figure 3 slowly cres. then the birds came flying in on Mr Sim's cue, and weisheng's few seconds of fame came when he came in with his flute solo. Everyone cres. and went back down at figure 15. WELL DONE! the last chord came and tadahs!

HOBBITS TIME!
fanfare came in. ( *chants to self* do it or regret it do it or regret )
IM SO GLAD WE HIT THE NOTES! we were together! everyone immersed ourselves into the music we are making. the heart the heart. caicai's solo came in fat and luscious and 7 bars later yours truly came in. safely reached the end and then the rest of the band came in and all. by this time everyone was perspiring from the heat of the spot lights. last few parts! grandioso! WATCH MR SIM WOOTS! slowed down at the right moment. AHHHHHH HAHA AND WE SO ENDED WITH THAT POMP POMP! ( woops pardon me )

and im freaking proud of the fact that all of us walked off the stage with confident smiles on our faces. we knew we did our best. we knew our hearts were in it with Mr Sim's and the rest. we carried our smiles out of the hall and im just so proud of all of us. we are the happiest band which walked off the stage today.

then the results came. some confusions and misunderstandings which are now resolved.
i loved that renactment of the scene where we went
"band no.5, yishun junior college, SILVER!"
and hugged each other tight back in school.
it didnt matter to me where or when we got our results.
it didnt matter to me what we get.
it just mattered to me, the fact that we stood together.
it just mattered to me, the fact that we played our best.

and i feel so so so blessed to know that we have sucha wonderful conductor who didnt care about being 'unglam' when he cried and screamed darn loudly when he found out we got a silver. he was and IS proud of all of us. we want you to know we're proud of you too =)

somehow i feel happier getting a silver here than i felt when i got a gold at tkgs.
i know how much all of us worked and sacrificed for this silver.
we cleared the paths OURSELVES.

WE KNOW WE ARE PROUD OF IT TOO.

WRONG!

in my opinion, the success of this outing shouldnt be determined by the number of people who went. quality over quantity okay! the planning committee did a great job ( although there were a few slips here and there, inevitable la hor? ), and i feel, that as long as those present really enjoyed themselves, its fine la =) thats the whole point of an outing anyway!

pasir ris may be far, but im sure those present really did enjoy ourselves.

probably by now, you guys have already heard of the bad news. as for those who hadnt, you will by the next band prac. BUT. we are not letting any of this get us down right?

chin up, back straight. we're gonna run this race together.

i dont know why but i just got so emotional during the meeting today after seeing Ms. Luo feeling so involved. I felt slighted by the "demise" too. YJ Winds, the people now are the pioneer batch. I really got to commend all the pioneers of YJ Winds - GuanYu, ChunHowe, Susanna, Shannon, Fazil, JiaLiang, JuLin, WanCheng, Qabir, Khairul, Marcus, Sarala, Kristelle, SuLing, HuiXin, QianRu, Charmaine, CaiTing, Angeline, ZiTing, Betty, Claudia, Martin and Lionel, all of us came into a hopeless band and we had dreams of changing its directions. I'm proud to say we did it - we convinced people to continue joining us and we convinced people to believe that we are one big happy family. We are heading towards a whole new direction now and i feel very hopeful for this band now. Let's just keep pushing on, i can already see on the day when all of us just screaming when our medal is announced and all of us hugging together with tears of joy. We'll work hard and play hard together as a band - YJ winds. WE'LL BE THE LEGACY OF YJ WINDS. I'm way friggin' proud of belonging to this band, YJ winds - so what if we are the lousiest JC band and the only band which got bronze for SYF in Singapore. I'm sure everything is going to change, we'll all do this together. =]

is it so hard to start a conversation? realise that our band members aint that thick skinned. or at least, as thick skinned as some others -points at self- LOL.. some members are new to this band, make them feel at home yea? while some are quietly supporting the band, really appreiciate that! talk ma, God gave us mouths to eat and talk leh.. but talk at the appropriate time ah, not when mr sim darren ( im trying to make him sound more cheena ) is trying to impart unto us his knowledge. AND i WISH and WANT all of us to put in our utmost efforts into sectionals/combine/yadayada after promos alrite? nothing's too difficult! LOOK AT MR SIM DARREN, SPEAKING MANDARIN LEH! wait. been so long! ( ok not. ) hope everyone enjoyed the TKWO workshop. learnt a lot from the TKWO people didnt we? I TOOK PICTURES!! we all trust our lovely tee-design commitee right?
weisheng's superb fashion sense + cruel straightforwardness. lets all cross our fingers!
just a suggestion. why not we make it THE band tee? standardised and all, make the batches after us wear the same thing. Just so time dont have to be wasted redesigning all over year after year after year. PLUS, the new members will be able to feel belonged easily once we distribute the band tee to them after 1 mth of their stay in band or smth. howhow? can can? *bounces around*

[ YEAR END CONCERT ]
dearest claudia's wrecking her brain to sqqqqqqqquuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeezzzze out some brain juice. so if u guy are BURSTING with ideas, go poke her or something =) everyone's idea counts kay? and if you dont speak up, we'd never know!

dearest band members. it has come to our attention that quite a number of us cant COUNT and simply rely on others around them to do so. *hints*

GUYS! ITS TIME TO BE INDEPENDENT IF YOU DONT WANNA GET A BRONZE/COP NEXT YEAR. COP ( Certificate of Participation ) and RELY on yourselves to count. WATCH mr sim. hes not there as a decorative item to the band room thank you very much. WE'RE JC. this problem gets worst noticebly whenever we play stuff in time signatures like 6/8, 7/8 etc. those odd ones.

so, heres the answer to all your problems!

the front part is cheesey peasy, but it shouldnt be regarded as less important. just take it as a recap and read through it. FOCUS on the back parts, it teaches you timings like 2/2 etc. OKAY?! hover ur mouse in the boxes with the music notations after clicking it. it'd play for you the metronumn beat ( a.k.a mr sim's conducting - i dont mean that mr sim conducts like a metromumn ), AND how the rhythm should be played. SHOULD. a neat band sounds GREAT. so work on it yea? take note of the smaller boxes within the bigger boxes. just hover in the first mini box then move on to the next. heh =) remember to click first!

shouldnt take more than an half an hour for you guys to understand. its animated =) *crosses heart* i say, its easier than understanding math tutorials stuff.

and say, are you guys in favour of a band pet?
